Background
On 3 June, the EU condemned in the strongest terms the violence in the north of Kosovo, where dozens of NATO peacekeepers were injured. The incidents were sparked by Kosovo’s resolve to install newly appointed, ethnic-Albanian mayors into office in the north of the country after local Serbs boycotted the elections.
In two resolutions adopted in May 2023, Parliament insisted that normalising relations between Belgrade and Pristina is a priority and a precondition for the EU accession of both countries.
Kosovo submitted its application for EU membership in December 2022.
