Next CULT Committee meeting: 28-29 June 2023
The next meeting of the Committee on Culture and Education will take place on Wednesday 28 June 2023, 9.00 - 12.30 and 14.30 - 17.00 in meeting room SPINELLI 1G2.
A joint meeting with the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs will take place on Thursday 29 June 2023, 10.30 - 11.30 in meeting room ANTALL (2Q2).

On 28 June, the CONT and CULT Committees together will hear the European Court of Auditors’ assessment of EU expenditure on the digitalisation of schools to learn how this can best benefit students’ learning. Funding comes for Cohesion Policy Funds, REACT-EU and the RRF to contribute towards the achievement of the EU’s digital education action plan.
The Committee on Culture and Education will vote its opinion for the AFET report on EU-Switzerland relations on 28 June. Within the larger context of this relationship, the opinion of the CULT Committee will focus specifically on the implications for Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps.
Following the presentation of budget estimates for 2024 and a revision of the MFF by the European Commission. The CULT rapporteur, Mr. Morten LØKKEGAARD (Renew) will present his approach to the Committee on 28 July. This starts the discussion that feeds into the larger position will be adopted by Parliament for negotiations with Council.
On 28 June, the Committee on Culture and Education will will discuss education, media, cultural heritage and youth policies in an exchange of views with Members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
On 10 June, the Committee on Culture and Education has been at the forefront of the European Youth Event (EYE) 2023 in Strasbourg, involving young people in the session called "Engaged4YOUth - MEPs want to hear from you".
The Committee on Culture and Education had an exchange of views with Commissioner Thierry Breton on 24 May. The discussion covered a wide range of topics, including updates on initiatives which were recently adopted by the Commission.
The Committee on Culture and Education held, on 24 May, an exchange of views on the own-initiative report on the 'cultural diversity and the conditions for authors in the European music streaming market'. The Rapporteur, Iban García del Blanco (S&D, Spain) gave his preliminary remarks on the subject, and addressed several issues from fair remuneration to AI.
The Committee on Culture and Education held, on 24 May, an exchange of views on the own-initiative report on the 'future of the European book sector'. The Rapporteur Tomasz Frankowski (EPP, Poland) presented his draft report, and will address a wide range of issues, such reading promotion, sustainability, accessibility and interoperability.
The Committee on Culture and Education voted on the own-initiative report on 'System of European Schools - state of play, challenges and perspectives' and on the legislative opinion on 'Protecting persons who engage in public participation from manifestly unfounded or abusive court proceedings ("Strategic lawsuits against public participation")' on 25 May. The Committee also looked into the opinion on the 'Implementation of the 2018 Geo-blocking Regulation in the digital single market'.
