Workshops

Workshops are organised by the policy departments and enable members to put questions to and exchange views with experts on subjects associated with parliamentary business or subjects of current interest. They are not necessarily held in public but may be held during a committee meeting.

This Workshop - organised by the Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs for the Committee on Petitions - focuses on the effects of climate change on vulnerable groups in society, such as the elderly, low-income families, and people with disabilities.

There still are problems regarding transparency of research and development costs of originator companies, and information on the actual prices paid for medicines.

The Workshop, organised by the Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs for the Committee on Petitions, focused on Disability Assessment, Mutual Recognition and the EU Disability Card and on the obstacles faced by persons with disabilities, and reported in petitions, when they move across the EU, due to lack of mutual recognition of disability status and related rights and differences in disability assessments.

The Workshop, organised by the Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs for the Committee on Petitions, focuses on transparency and citizen engagement in the fight against corruption. The Committee on Petitions places dialogue with European citizens at the very center of its activity. It is particularly interested in the development of administrative transparency and in preventing and fighting corruption in both the public and private sectors.

The Workshop, organised by the Policy Department for Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs for the Committee on Petitions, focused on the implementation of the 2015 Concluding Observations of the CRPD Committee by the EU and the 2021-2030 Disability Strategy.

The PETI Committee has requested the Policy Department for Citizens' Rights and Constitutional Affairs to organise a Workshop on LGBTI+ rights in the EU to discuss the situation of LGBTI+ persons notably as they emerge from the petitions received by the EP, to examine the new Strategy on LGBTIQ rights recently presented by the Commission and to address the problem represented by the obstacles to the free movement of Rainbow Families through a dedicated study.

The 2020 Worskhop on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, organised by the Policy Department on Citizens' Rights and Constitutional Affairs upon request of the Committee on Petitions, focuses this year on the new EU Disability Strategy 2021-2030. With the current EU Disability Strategy 2010-2020 coming to an end, the EU is working to equip itself with a new Disability Strategy for the years 2021-2030.

On 2 April 2019, the Committee on Petitions hosted a workshop on Conflicts of interest in the EU institutions, organized by the Policy Department on Citizens’ Rights and Constitutional Affairs. The workshop examined the achievements reached during this parliamentary term in relation to the conflicts of interests in the EU institutions and agencies, as well integrity, accountability, transparency, code of conducts and revolving doors, while also discussing challenges for the future.
