Missions
Members from the Special Committee on Foreign Interference travelled to Kyiv on 20-21 February to discuss with their Ukrainian counterparts strategies and practices to counter Russian interference. The mission enabled Members to get a better understanding on how the EU institutions could be better equipped to provide the necessary assistance to Ukraine in fighting Russian information manipulation and interference.
The Special Committee ING2 sent an ad-hoc delegation to the United Nations in New York City, USA, from 31 October to 3 November 2022. The delegation was composed of seven Members, led by Ms Sandra Kalniete (EPP, LV), ING2 Rapporteur. The mission to New York enabled Members of the Special Committee to discuss with UN ambassadors and UN officials about their approach to information manipulation and interference and the possibility to develop global norms on the issue.
The Special Committee sent a mission to Canberra and Melbourne (Australia), from 20 to 22 September 2022. The delegation was composed by four Members, led by Mr Raphaël Glucksmann (S&D, FR), Mr Andreas Schieder (S&D, AT), Ms Isabel Wiseler-Lima (EPP, LU) and Mr Georgios Kyrtsos (Renew, EL).
The ING2 Special Committee sent a mission to Helsinki (Finland), from 7 to 8 September 2022. A four-member delegation, led by Mr Raphaël Glucksmann (S&D, FR), had several meetings at the European Centre of Excellence for Countering Hybrid Threats (Hybrid CoE).
Members from the Special Committee on Foreign Interference went to Riga on 24 May to meet officials from the NATO Strategic Communication Centre, ahead of the Riga StratCom Dialogue, which took place on 25 and 26 May. The event gathered the strategic communications community in the aftermath of Russian aggression.
