The Committee on Budgets hosted a public hearing to discuss the EU financial assistance to Africa and Latin America in the context of the 2021-2027 EU long term budget (multiannual financial framework - MFF).

MEPs examined in particular the three new own resources which are expected to be subject of ‘sectoral’ and budgetary legislative initiatives in Q2 of 2021: the digital levy, the revised ETS and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism.

On 23 January, the BUDG committee held a public Hearing entitled "Own Resources and Fiscal Policy harmonisation: Untapped potential for synergies?", under the chairmanship of the two own-resources rapporteurs Mr José Manuel Fernandes (EPP, PT) and Ms Valérie Hayer (RE, FR).
The Committees on Budgets and Budgetary Control questioned the commissioner-designate on future budget policy and protecting the EU’s financial interests. Political groups’ coordinators and chairs from the two committees will meet within 24 hours to assess the performance of the Austrian Commissioner-designate Hahn.
