Hearings

A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. On the 23rd of May, the ITRE Committee organised a public hearing on the Net Zero Industry Act, which aimed to scale up manufacturig of clean technologies in the EU and make sure the Union is well-equipped for the clean-energy transition. The hearing allowed Members to gather valuable input for their work on this legislative proposal.

On the 22nd of May, the ITRE Committee organised a public hearing on the Critical Raw Materials Act, focussing on the actions proposed by the Commission to ensure the EU's access to a secure, diversified, affordable and sustainable supply of these critical items. Members had the opportunity to exchange views with affected stakeholders and experts in the field.

The ITRE Committee organised a public hearing on the reform of the Electricity Market Design that was proposed by the Commission on 14 March. The proposals aim to accelerate renewable generation and the phase-out of fossil gas, make consumer bills less dependent on volatile fossil fuel prices, better protect consumers from future price spikes and potential market manipulation, and make the EU's industry clean and more competitive.

On 26 October, the Committee held a public hearing on “Data Act: creating growth and innovation”. The aim of this hearing is to engage in an open debate with relevant stakeholders on the key provisions of chapter II - business to consumer and business to business data sharing - and chapter V - making data available to public sector bodies and union institutions, agencies or bodies based on exceptional need - of the Data Act, which was proposed by the Commission on the 23 February 2022.

The ITRE Committee held a public hearing on ' Creative Start-ups and Innovation'. The aim of this meeting was to hear from the invited speakers about the novel innovation in their Start-ups, and also to learn more about the innovation that they have set up in the creative sector. The theme of the hearing was linked to EU industrial strategy, cultural and creative industries.

The initiative takes up the objectives of the European Green Deal to find tangible, sustainable, beautiful and inclusive solutions to improve our daily lives.

On Tuesday, 22 March 2022 (13:45-15:45), ITRE Committee held a Public Hearing on the Revision of the Third Energy Package for gas, during which ITRE Members discussed the main aspects of the legislative proposals that form the package with external experts.
