Hearings

A committee is permitted to organise a hearing with experts, where this is considered essential to its work on a particular subject. Hearings can also be held jointly by two or more committees. Most committees organise regular hearings, as they allow them to hear from experts and hold discussions on the key issues. FISC Subcommittee

On 27 June 2023, from 15:00 to 16:30, the FISC Subcommittee will host a public hearing on “The role of tax incentives in achieving EU policy goals”. While they come in many shapes and forms (accelerated depreciations, carry-forwards of losses...), tax incentives for businesses are mostly introduced to support either wider economic objectives (growth, job creation, the need to attract foreign direct investment) or specific policies (such as the energy transition).

On 25 January 2023, from 15:00 to 16:30, the FISC Subcommittee had a public hearing on "What should the Business in Europe: Framework for Income Taxation (BEFIT) proposal look like?"

On 09 January 2023, from 17:00 to 18:30, the FISC Subcommittee will host a public hearing on "Potential Distortions of the Single Market due to Personal Income Tax: challenges for SMEs and risks of harmful tax competition". The transformation of the way how we work through digitalization and globalization has been accelerated during the COVID19 pandemic and has led to a significant increase of remote working. These developments have also created new challenges in the area taxation.

On 25 October 2022, from 09:00 to 11:00, the ECON Committee and the FISC Subcommittee hosted a public hearing on "Why Should Young Europeans Care about Finance and Taxation?" in the context of the European Year of Youth 2022.

On 13 October, FISC had a public hearing on ‘Case Studies on Member States’ National Tax Policies - Luxembourg: Implemented National Tax Reforms and the Combat against Aggressive Tax Schemes’. Luxembourg is one of the smallest EU Member States, both in terms of size and population, but a major European and global financial hub. The country has been criticised for its corporate tax framework which businesses and high net-worth individuals may be employing for abusive tax purposes.
