About
Welcome words
Welcome to the Committee on Budgets, which it is my privilege to chair. We meet regularly to discuss, amend and prepare the adoption of the EU's annual and multiannual budgets, which provide funding for key policies and programmes.
Negotiating and adopting the annual EU budget is one of our core tasks. As Chair, I will apply all my energy and experience to ensuring that we are equipped with a future-oriented budget focusing on the common challenges our societies face.
Building on the work in the first half of this term, we will work hard to scrutinise and ensure delivery of the EU budget framework from 2021 to 2027 and of the unprecedented support provided through the recovery instrument, NextGenerationEU. A key aspect of the committee's work is to scrutinise spending by the Member States through the Recovery and Resilience Facility.
We will also be seeking to ensure that the budget benefits from new revenue streams through new own resources.
We will be tackling a number of other important issues, such as the budgetary dimension of legislative proposals aimed at reducing the EU's net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030.
