Приветствие
As Chair of the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) I am pleased to welcome you on this page.
The LIBE Committee is in charge of most of the legislation and democratic oversight for policies enabling the European Union to offer its citizens an area of freedom, security and justice (Article 3 TEU). While doing so it ensures the full respect of the Charter of Fundamental Rights in the EU territory in conjunction with the European Convention on Human Rights and the strengthening of European citizenship.
Our 68-Member Committee carries out its work in daily interactions with the European Commission, the Council of ministers and as well as in close cooperation with national Parliaments. Regular exchanges also take place with representatives from the judiciary, law-enforcement authorities, Justice and Home Affairs EU agencies, academics and civil society.
While fully respecting the national legal order, EU Justice and Home Affairs policies are aimed at better dealing at the European level with matters of common interest like: the fight against international crime, the fight against terrorism, the protection of the rule of law and fundamental rights, ensuring data protection and privacy in a digital age, asylum and migration, fighting against discrimination based on racial or ethnic origin, religion, belief, disability, age or sexual orientation, and the management of human mobility in full compliance with European values.
To better achieve these objectives in such sensitive domains, mutual trust and active participation between EU institutions, Member States and European citizens, are key to success. The LIBE Committee does its upmost to build a fruitful dialogue with all interested parties and especially with citizens, so that the objectives of the Treaties can be fully achieved and the Charter of Fundamental Rights fully implemented.
