During the Committee meeting, there was a report back from the recent EMPL mission to the Porto Social Forum, which was held from 26 to 27 May 2023. The aim of the Forum was to take stock of major initiatives and to underline the need for continued implementation of the objectives towards building stronger Social Europe agreed at the Porto Social Summit in 2021.

Additionally, Véronique Trillet-Lenoir (Renew), who is the rapporteur for the Directive 2009/148/EC on the protection of workers from asbestos-related risks, gave an update on the negotiations surrounding the amendment of this directive. The meeting agenda also included the consideration of draft reports on "Statistics on population and housing" and "Reducing inequalities and promoting social inclusion in times of crisis for children and their families". MEP Sandra Pereira (The Left) serves as the rapporteur for both reports. Furthermore, the draft report on "Job creation - the just transition and impact investments" was discussed during the meeting - Rapporteur Sara Matthieu (Verts/ALE). The European Commission presented the report on the outcomes of the 2021-2027 cohesion policy programming exercise. This presentation will provide valuable insights into the ongoing efforts to strengthen cohesion and enhance the socio-economic development of our regions.
